Equitable and Women Empowerment at Work
Equitable and Women Empowerment at Work
In the realm of business nowadays, the concepts of fairness and strengthening women at work transcend into socio-economic ideals (Catalyst, 2023). Most companies nowadays realize that the inclusion of a diverse and open-minded team increases creativity, collaboration, and improved decisions. Supporting women in the workplace is equitable to giving women the same opportunities, acknowledging their work, and creating a workplace where everyone can develop (ILO, 2022).
What is Gender Equality?
Having equal rights, responsibilities, and opportunities for men and women in all areas of work is termed as gender equality. However, women face a lot of struggles such as earning less, being at lower ranks, getting promotions less frequently, and wwatching leaders from the bottom. \{These problems are not limited to awareness and are more prevalent in the workforce. Support is not just from people, but from the policies of a corporation and those who enforce them. (United Nations, 2020)}
Companies can take a few concrete actions to promote fairness, equality, and confidence building. For instance, honest recruitment and honest promotion, transparency in pay, mentorship programs to help women fulfill their potential (LeanIn.Org, 2023). Flexible working hours, the provision of maternity support, and family friendly policies enable women to cope with the dual burden of paid work and unpaid family responsibilities (ILO, 2022).
Workplace environment also plays a key role. Companies have to actively dispel stereotypes, engage with `outdated` paradigms, provide management and leadership mentorship, and establish a culture of workplace voice where women leaders are listened to. When women managers are present, they demonstrate a fundamental and positive cognitive/knowledge diversity, the synergetic effect of which significantly contributes to the organizational and bottom line. There is a growing body of literature confirming that gender diversity unleashes more value than homogeneous groups in the creation of innovative solutions and entrepreneurial performance (Catalyst, 2023).
On top of organizational advantages, equality also enhances a company’s reputation. It is a noted fact that clients, stakeholders, and partners are more easily attracted to and retain entities that are fair, socially responsible, and demonstrate diversity (Forum, 2024).
Conclusion
The shift in businesses values in regards to the inclusion of women in the workplace has adapted to the models of Gender Equality and Women Empowerment as soft-leadership tools and ethnical strategies (United Nations, 2020).As such, businesses can continue adapting to the consumer market by incorporating women as market adapters in the businesses to continue extending the market and creating value to the organizations. Open workplaces that value the inclusion of women in the workplace create more opportunities for the organizations and for the women themselves. Organizations that implement workplace practices that foster workplace equality attract and retain more business opportunities as a result of increased workplace satisfaction which results in more active collaboration. This results in increased workplace satisfaction, active collaboration, and sustained business success. Organizations begin to foster a culture of sustained success when they define opportunities not by gender, but by potential and value that can be brought to the organization.
